Damon fixed braces – for comfort and results
Fixed braces are what most people associate with orthodontic treatment. Brackets are fitted to the front surface of your teeth and an archwire is threaded through, often giving the impression of ‘train tracks’. Both of these components then work together via gentle force to move your teeth into position.
Developments in technology mean fixed braces are losing the ‘train track’ look but this traditional orthodontic appliance continues to be an effective treatment of choice for many patients. At Share A Smile Orthodontics, we use the Damon system of fixed braces. Here’s how they work.
Self-ligating system: Damon fixed braces use a self-ligating system to straighten your teeth. Each bracket has a sliding mechanism which allows the archwire to move freely, thus responding to your teeth as they move slowly into position. This means less force is needed compared to traditional fixed braces.
Great aesthetic option: The brackets used in the Damon system are known for their strength and durability but they also have their aesthetic advantages. Available in silver and clear, and smaller than the brackets associated with traditional fixed braces, Damon braces are less visible and also easier to clean.
